The earth is important, and making sure that you do your part to protect it is one of your passions. You have probably taken a few steps to be as green as possible in your household, but there is probably much more that you can do. The following are a few more ideas to make your home greener that are sometimes overlooked.
It might be time to switch from toilet paper to cloth. These family cloths are reusable, and all you have to do is soak them after use before washing them in your washing machine. You can save a lot of money and trees in the long run because you will no longer be using toilet paper. Yes, most people have a hard time making the switch because they are used to toilet paper; but try it, and you may get comfortable with some patience.
Reusable Monthly Cloth
Women of child bearing age have to purchase pads or tampons every month, which can get costly. You can do the same as was mentioned earlier about the family cloths. There are several options to consider, from bamboo female pads to sea sponges that are now used instead of tampons. All of these are reusable or at least sustainable products that will save money and let you be a little more green at home. Again, you are going to have to get used to some of these changes, but it can be done.
Most people use bedding materials made from synthetic materials, and that is no good. You want to switch to something more natural, and you can do that by opting for better fabrics. You can look for bed linen online. Linen is a very breathable fabric that helps reduce sweat. It should also be noted that linen is antibacterial, which is just a bonus. Another bonus worth mentioning is that linen cleans up pretty easily and does not stain as easily as synthetic fabrics, which is a great thing for homes with accident-prone kids or adults.
The washing machine uses a lot of water and an ample amount of electricity. Perhaps you already purchased an eco-friendly version or you are thinking about it and that is good, but you can do better. Granted, not many people are going to like the idea of purchasing a hand-crank or manual washing machine, but it will do the job with a lot less water or electricity. These washing machines are time consuming, but they are worth the effort if you care for the environment. This is going to be hard work, especially if you have a large family, but it will make you exercise, and there is nothing wrong with that.
These are just some of the things that are sometimes overlooked when a household is attempting to be as green as possible. There is still a lot more to do like using a composting container or installing a rainwater system to help you use some of this water instead of city water. The point is, do your best to always look for ways to improve because you never know what you might be missing.
